HARTFORD, CONN – October 27, 2004 – The MetroHartford Alliance, the region’s Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Leader, and the Town of Berlin have forged a new partnership that will provide economic development support to the town, existing businesses and in future development projects, while strengthening the collaboration between the municipalities throughout central Connecticut.
The MetroHartford Alliance, the Region’s Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Leader, is a member-based organization supporting the needs of all size businesses through engaging in key business and economic development initiatives that make the Hartford region a premier place for all people to live, work, play and raise a family. Through its municipal partnerships in Central Connecticut, the Alliance provides valuable leadership in shaping a regional economy.

“The Town of Berlin’s decision to partner with us demonstrates that our municipalities are working together for a stronger and more prosperous regional economy. We look forward to making our first visit to Berlin as well as working closely with the town’s staff in supporting their economic development initiatives,” says Todd Andrews, vice president, Municipal Services, MetroHartford Alliance.
The MetroHartford Alliance currently provides economic development support and services to 35 towns in the region. Programs include a revolving, below market rate Growth Fund Loan Program available to support new and expanding businesses based on new job creation; training programs for economic development public officials; business visitation programs; and marketing/business attraction initiatives that brand the region to outside companies; recruitment and retention of young professionals to the region; management of grants that will enable the Alliance and its partners to inventory and develop Brownfields’ sites throughout the region as well as qualify the region for federal EDA funding for a variety of economic development projects through the preparation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).

“Berlin’s participation in the MetroHartford Alliance will increase our economic development connections to the Hartford region. We will benefit from being a part of the regional economic marketing effort and from the additional assistance programs that will be available to Berlin companies,” says Berlin Mayor Adam Salina.
